Path to Membership or Being a “Friend”
All are welcome to participate in the congregational life of Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation. We have designations for “member” or “friend” for participants who would like to make their commitment to the congregation more formal.
When you join in membership or “Friendship” you will be part of this vital, liberating institution that stands for the worth and dignity of all people, the health of our planet, and the conscious care of our neighbors. You will be declaring your commitment to siding with love, creating peace, and welcoming all. You will belong to a greater spiritual movement of creators who bring about positive change in our world. Our community will be enriched by your fellowship.
Members
As a member of the congregation you have a chance to vote on issues that influence and shape our congregation’s life at annual meetings and other meetings that occur throughout the year.
Members join our community in covenant and agree to affirm the values of Unitarian Universalism and give of their time, talent, and treasure in support of our congregation. Members are asked to make an annual financial contribution to the congregation in whatever amount fits within their budget. Members are asked to participate in the nurturing of our fellowship through compassion, openness, imagination, and generosity.
Membership Eligibility
All person age 16 or older are eligible for membership
Potential Members are asked to attend an orientation class or schedule a meeting with the pastor to discuss the principles and purpose of the Unitarian Universalist tradition and to discuss the place of Beacon within that tradition. Orientation classes are generally two times a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
Members agree to receive the gifts of a spiritual community and to give in the ways they are able of their time, talent, and treasure.
Members agree to to sign our membership book as an outward sign of their commitment to supporting Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
“Friend”
As a “friend” of Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation who has accepted our covenant and who has begun attending services, programs, or events regularly, you are welcome to participate in the worship life and community of our congregation. We look forward to seeing you at Sunday morning worship service, welcome your children and youth into our programs, and hope you will consider participating in our adult discussion and education groups, fundraisers, social events, and social justice opportunities. Most of our friends contribute financially to the congregation in order to support the continuation of worship and programs.
