Family resources for Sunday July 14

The touchstones theme in July is FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY

Inspiration for UU parents: The 7th UU principle, states that we all have a responsibility for the interconnected web of life.  Rev. Forrest Gilmore, author of in The Seven Principles in Word and Worship, says, “Our seventh Principle may be our Unitarian Universalist way of coming to fully embrace something greater than ourselves. The interdependent web—expressed as the spirit of life, the ground of all being, the oneness of all existence, the community-forming power, the process of life, the creative force, even God—can help us develop that social understanding of ourselves that we and our culture so desperately need. It is a source of meaning to which we can dedicate our lives.”

Last month I attended the General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association.  I spent 16 hours working with the Green Team.  We sorted trash and educated conference participants about composting, recycling, and landfill procedures in our host city, Spokane, WA.  For more information about creating a greener GA, check out this wonderful article in UU World, Summer 2019.

The story this week:

The Answer Lies in Your Hands

Conversation starters:

Watch this video “With My Own Two Hands,” by Ben Harper, part of a partnership with the international anti-poverty NGO, ATD Fourth World, and their #StopPoverty campaign. Talk about the differences in the ways people live.  How can we change the world with our own two hands?

Extending the theme:

Find out more about the UUA’s Green Sanctuary program. Is your congregation participating? If not, are there other families who might be interested in working together to develop a Green Sanctuary proposal for congregational leaders?

Let me know if I can be supportive to you in any other way!  I am here for you.

All my best with blessings,

Amy
